Rosetta Reynolds- 20 years old

"The utter stupidity coming out of your mouth makes it impossible for me to function. Quiet."

Rosetta was raised by a criminal to be a criminal. She at first had little empathy towards those around her, but as she integrated into the family she found meaning in protecting those she cared for and safety in those around her. She eventually managed to open up, reluctantly accepting her adopted siblings, and finally an almost-equal and father figure in the shape of Johnathan Rowland, a kindred spirit who had also been betrayed and abused by his parents as well.
Now, Rosetta is extremely confident and sure of herself. She knows her talents and knows her weaknesses, and uses both to her advantage. She can be extremely flirty - though there is often an ulterior motive behind it. She’s has some serious emotional walls, and rarely lets anyone get past them. She also is extremely manipulative and cunning. Rosetta is a gorgeous girl. She holds a deadly beauty that she uses to her advantage. Hazel eyes that spark with skepticism rest on tanned skin, framed with hacked, short, layered black hair. She has a slender yet muscular form that can be agile but she prefers to fight with a brutal style, similar to Reckoning's. She throws her whole power at an enemy and decimates them. Rosetta can seem complex and ambivalent, or the simplest creature in the world, depending on one's frame of reference. By hero standards, she is a ruthless killer ("of the second order," she might add, "I kill only killers"), a worldly-wise seductress, and a painfully naive child, all at the same time. This may also be the reason why she thinks of herself in terms of alter egos — Phoenix is who she is and what she was meant to be, Rosetta is just a cover for the vigilante within. With this frame of mind she figures that she finally has moved on to deeper meaning. By denying all that is human inside her, she is able to negate the part of her she perceives as weak, as vulnerable, naive. The part of her that was betrayed, hurt, and abused. The new part that has risen from the ashes of her former self like the phoenix of yore was something else. Beautiful, enticing and lethal, it was predator rather than prey, the shape of revenge — revenge for her former, weaker self as well as her more stationary brethren. Rosetta sees herself in the tradition of vigilantes who choose a clod and protect its inhabitants, but she feels most compelled to protect those who are afforded the least protection by the law. She is somewhat disgruntled that her older brother, Ashton refuses to acknowledge the similarity of their missions and colors her misguided. Phoenix's mission is to clean the streets of Vlostock. She kills without remorse, sacrifices innocents like pawns in a chess game, and gains and disposes of allies in a flash. She is a very methodical thinker, without much emotion, everything has a price to her and everything has worth. Somethings can, and will, be sacrificed for others. |

- Loves cucumbers
- is really quite bad at chess and she can't figure out the reasoning. It's gotten quite bad, she can't even beat Malcolm! - Favorite color is red, any red will do but she likes dark reds the most - Is a sucker for horror movies - She doesn't understand movie night. There's much more productive ways to spend their time and to build team moral. - Out of all her siblings she's closest to Nathaniel, loves to spar with Trip, tolerates Malcolm, and straight up wouldn't mind never seeing Ashton again. - Favorite animals are snakes, mud-skippers are a close second. - Wouldn't be caught dead in high heels, she hates them - Hates how short she is, but it does come in handy for enemies underestimating her - Is the only one to really see and accept Johnathan as a father. To Trip the man was a family member more akin to a cousin, Malcom's the man's nephew, Nathaniel sees him as a leader. Perhaps Ashton (but if he ever did he wouldn't say it now) - Hate fall, the crunchy leaves suck - Likes to do jigsaws and frame them afterwards - She watched Star Trek with the family and took away from it 'The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few' and feels like that is super fitting for the times. (Even though Trip and Nathaniel continue to protest, "That's not the message!") - Can cook okay? She soldiered on one time with smoke billowing out of the oven and the fire alarm blaring. Trip thought the cookies were excellent. - When hurt on the field she always staunchly denies it and once fainted after a battle after declaring she was fine. - Is the team's field medic (because once they get back to Base all injuries are feted through Nate, the boy's got a future in medicine) - "She's beauty, she's grace, she'll punch you in the face -" "Shut it, Nathaniel." - She regrets alot of things, mostly in her relationships with her brothers. - Secretly, she'd like to be a public defender and help the poor of Vlostock - Loves her city, it's a sentiment instilled in her by Johnathan but one she is fully behind. - Is a very light sleeper - Can sleep almost anywhere and falls asleep almost instantly - Is scared of needles, probably because of her mother - Is a surprisingly good singer, not that anyone but Nathaniel knows - Likes scotch, hates wine - She thinks audiobooks are dumb, why not just read? - Never really laughs - Finds dumb jokes to be very humorous and typically always laughs. Trip always is telling bad puns during patrol in hopes of getting her to laugh when they're taking down criminals. (Sometimes she laughs and it's freaking terrifying to the criminals because she has a mask and they don't know why she's laughing) |
The first and only female member of the family comes in the form of Rosetta Reynolds. Smart, cunning, and devious to the extreme she is definitely the coldest and most detached member.
Rosetta’s mother Maria was a psychiatrist at the Vlostock City penitentiary specializing in helping the more violent and psychotic inmates. It is thought, for one one really knows, that Rosetta's father was one of these incarcerated souls. The arrival of Reckoning on the streets when Rosetta was two, marked a turning point in Maria's life. She wanted to discover what made a psychopath, what made people want to murder. She began experimenting on the inmates in the jail, subtle at first. She discovered that in the right state of mind killing is easy. She wanted to create that state of mind, bottle it up and achieve fame. Maria performed many experiments on various inmates, driving some insane. She believed she had found away by over stimulating the pain receptors in the brain, that a person could be driven mad and kill without empathy. The drug she called Serum X. She began to test the drug on herself, in low doses and record the results. At this time Rosetta had just turned seven and her mother was ousted from her job after her supervisor caught wind of her experiments. Maria thought that if she could prove to them the effectiveness of her drug that they would reinstate her. She decided that what better way to show the drugs use than to capture the cities hero and make him no better than the raving lunatics in the Penitentiary. It is at this point that Maria dawned the new identity of Death Angel, and took to the streets. Her plan was to drive enough people insane so that Reckoning had to take notice. It worked and eventually Reckoning took notice. Reckoning and Vigil vowed to bring this new threat in. However it wasn't until two years later, when Rosetta twelve, that Death Angel was perceived to be a real threat. While Euchre was out on patrol, Maria had some thugs attack Rosetta, knowing that the bleeding heart couldn't resist defending her. Once the eldest of Reckoning's family had fought them off, he leaned down to ask the little girl if she was alright, and where her family was. Rosetta in instructions from her mother, attacked him and injected him with a sleeping serum. Euchre woke to find himself in a brightly lit, rundown imitation of an operating room. After further examination he discovered that Death Angel's and her daughter's lair was in the old burned down hospital that his parents had died in. Rosetta was standing on a chair in the fountain of the room, her tiny hands shaking as she held a video camera. The villain in question, Death Angel, stepped forth from the shadows and spoke towards a video camera that her daughter was holding. “Serum X, trial number one. Subject Euchre, male, age unknown, alter ego unknown.” Then she leered down and whispered, “For now.” And injected the vigilante, and Trip's world became pain. Rosetta was numb for the first ten trials, an hour apart they ripped at the young man who had saved her life and she was at a loss. She wanted to help her mother, but Euchre seemed like a good man and there were too few of those left in the city. The first five hours he remained stubbornly silent. Then, at last as her mother had predicted he had begun to scream. But it wasn't screams of madness, the young man called for Reckoning and his parents whom Rosetta assumed were dead, judging from the tears coursing down his face. The girl could take no more, as she watched the proud symbol of hope refuse to give in after 96 trials. Almost five days had passed when Rosetta decided to help Reckoning find his former partner. She took the comm that they had taken out of Euchre's ear and listened to the other side. “God, Reckoning he's being tortured. I can hear it! We have to do something, Death Angel has him!” An unfamiliar voice spoke over the line, probably Reckoning 's new Vigil. “Hello?” She had whispered, and the voices on the other side focused in on her. She told them the location where she was, and where Euchre was. A fight ensued when the two vigilantes crashed through the window, to free their own. Her mother committed suicide to avoid going to jail and Reckoning took her under his wing. While unsettled and quiet at first, Rosetta adapted quite well to her new circumstances. She loved Jonathan like the father she never had, as well as Euchre, AKA Trip. She adjusted so well that the thought of leaving drove her mad with fear. Rosetta, still unsure about how being a hero worked, knew that she needed to make herself indispensable to the family. The fates smiled upon her when Johnathan revoked Ashton’s mantel, and when he got himself captured… Well, it wasn’t her fault if she pushed Johnathan to giving the suit to her. As she grew older she eventually took a new identity for herself as Phoenix, trying to shed the mistakes of her past as well as make room for more family members. She rejoiced when Nathaniel was adopted into the family, and swelled with pride when Malcolm became Vigil. As Phoenix she believes in the good of the many versus that of the few, and is willing to sacrifice Innocents unlike the rest of the family. She prides herself on being the most cunning in the family and her ability to understand their many foe’s motivations. Johnathan's death was a cruel blow to her as he was in all respects her father. She mourns deeply, and since his death Phoenix has become a little more violent and a little less methodical. The city needs Reckoning. Phoenix will fill his absence. |
Jonathan Rowland AKA “Reckoning” - “ Father, you were too good to me. You took in a child of the enemy and I hope that you never regretted it. I failed you and know I will always hold myself at fault. Rest easy, and know your children will die to protect the city you so loved.” Johnathan showed the most open affection towards his only daughter. She, he understood the best and molded into the person she is today. She openly acknowledges him as her father and out of the whole family she mourns him the most. While he was alive Rosetta tried her hardest to please him and abided by his every decision. His word was law, and woe to anyone who wronged him.
Howard “Trip” Lawrence the third AKA “Euchre” - “Trip was my first friend. I love him, he would die for me and I would do the same. But no matter how much I love him, it's true he let's his ideals blind him to reality. We can't save everyone in this war against our foes.” Rosetta loves her eldest brother despite the fact that their views on how to save Vlostock clash. They are the most alike in their family of introverts, and yet they fight the most too. She feels partly responsible for his imprisonment with her mother, and fears that he hasn't fully forgiven her, even if he assures her he has. It doesn't mean that they wouldn't fight together in an instant, and Rosetta knows no one else that she would rather have guard her back. Ashton Charles Wilson AKA “Venger” - “He rightfully hates me, I took Vigil from him when he still needed the mantel. But that doesn't justify his lies about father! I'll protect him because he is family, but nothing except his ties to father and Trip keep me loyal.” Rosetta hates Ashton because she doesn't believe his claims of how Jonathan treated him. She has the utmost loyalty to her father and Ashton's claims irk her to say the least. They will fight together grudgingly, but have violent fights with each other just as often. They have had altercations that have led to blows more times that she can count. Nathaniel Larsonn AKA “Matrix” - “There are many an incident I can recall that would have ended disastrously without Nathaniel. His logic and reason I can appreciate. He's a good little brother. ” The two respect on another. The both know that they are good at their respective jobs are are fiercely protective of each other. Both Rosetta and Nathaniel can have civil conversations with each other easily. There is an unspoken love between them even if they can't really voice it all that well. Malcolm Rowland AKA “Vigil” - “He has potential. I'll beat that mouth off of him one day though. ” The youngest member of the family, Rosetta isn't too sure of. They have the closest history, both being raised by criminals but Malcolm thinks Rosetta is untrustworthy and she isn't too fond of him either. She acknowledges that he is a good Vigil while keeping tabs on him at the same time. |
PHOENIX - Phoenix was the alter ego developed after Rosetta outgrew vigil. She wanted to reinvent herself and spread her wings outside of the 'Reckoning Sidekick' role. Unlike Trip's Euchre she didn't have another kid immediate want to/take Vigil's role after her so there was no pressing need to develop Phoenix. As a result she spent alot more time crafting the suit/persona.
Phoenix is often seen alone or in a duo. Rarely can she been seen patrolling in a large group like Euchre usually orchestrates. She works best when by herself or only having to look after one other person. Typically she shies away from any dual patrol partner than at isn't Reckoning. Phoenix and the police have a testy relationship as she'll often make gambles during hostage situations and has more than once done what they deem 'endanger the public'. Phoenix has no qualms with killing, however she abides by the 'no firearms' rule set by Reckoning. She finds them a terrible way to kill, and if she takes a life she wants to make sure it is by her hand or blade. Not a piece of metal that she has no control over. The Phoenix suit is nothing special, it's practical. Black Kevlar wraps around, protecting her from bullets. Various red belts attach pouches to store weapons and other needed materiel in. Upon her shoulders are armored pads, also in red, to provide just a little more protection. Her gloved hands are red, and come to sharp tips which look menacing and if needed also double as weapons. In fact, that's the point of the suit. It isn't flashy or distracting, it's meant to embolden Rosetta's naturally imitating stance and posture - making her a terror of the night. The suit sports the trademark white mask, obscuring her face. The \/ is done in the familiar off white of the whole 'clan', if slightly sharper at the edges, and leaves Rosetta's fierce green eye and red hair left to the world to see (as a sort of addition to the suit.) The armored, black boot' contain thrusters that allow easier rooftop chases and her mask has a built in comm system so she can hear Matrix's orders back from base and communicate with the rest of the family. |
